The Heresy of Spirit
As the researchers of planetary motion described what could not be accepted by the authorities of their day, so the researcher of inner truth today points to the equally unacceptable: that we are spiritual beings, in a world called to life and animated by Spirit.
Modern orthodoxy is the tale of all things as the outcome of matter. It isn’t important to distinguish what exactly is meant by matter at this point. What is important is to see that whatever it may be called, mass, energy, field, it is the underlying substratum or true reality and it is unconscious, unalive, unthinking and without desire.
All these higher-order phenomena are the result of the activity and properties of matter. Matter is not conscious, but consciousness arises, or emerges, as an outcome of matter.
Of course, the glaring problem, the irreducible problem that physical science finds itself faced with is that of the observer. Everything requires that actual, human observer. There is no experiment without the experimenter. There is no hypothesis, theory, peer-review, nothing of science at all, without it being presented as content to the observer.
