3. Let us distinguish between philosophy the path and philosophy the goal. As a path, it is the ‘love of wisdom’. As a goal, it is Love-Wisdom itself.
So long as philosophy works to guide towards Love-Wisdom it remains true to its purpose. So far as it becomes enamored of itself and its ideas it is philodexia, the love of ideas and opinions leading to endless disputations.
Love-Wisdom makes its natural appearance when philosophy does its work of freeing the mind to see clearly.
